ABOUT THE PLANT

The joint-stock company “Tbilisi Branch of Electric Rolling Stock Repair Plant” (ZREPS) was established in 1996. The joint-stock company implements the first and the second categories of overhaul and modernization of Soviet production wagons models 81-717, 81-714, Ezhz (Ежз), and Ema (Ема).

The overhaul program encompasses restoration of vital technical aspects of wagons. Simultaneously, it involves comprehensive modernization of number of junctions by incorporating cutting-edge technological innovations. Such approach guarantees reliable operation of trains, while ensuring safety and comfortable passenger transportation and reduced operational expenses. Moreover, it enhances the working conditions for wagon drivers.

Wagon overhauls are conducted in strict accordance with the specifications outlined in the “Metropolitan Wagon Repair Guide” (ЦМетро). This process ensures the complete restoration of all operational characteristics of the wagon, including the proper functioning of individual components, junctions, and details, all within the parameters defined by technical regulations.

Along with enhancing technical parameters, the modernization procedure establishes optimal conditions for passengers, ensuring their comfortable travel experience.  LED lighting, informational displays and vandal-resistant seatings have been installed in passenger compartments. Additionally, measures have been taken to reduce noise levels.

The working environment for the wagon driver has been significantly improved. The driver cabin has been increased by 0.8 square meters, featuring a wide-visibility windshield. Additionally, external and internal view monitors of the wagons have been integrated into the cabin, accompanied by touch control elements on the control panel. Highly efficient tunnel lighting is provided by xenon lamps and many other innovations.  Upon request, the climate control system of the driver cabin may be installed.

The factory is staffed by highly qualified personnel who can guarantee the lifecycle extension of old Soviet wagons up to 50 years.  For wagons over 50 years of age, if certain criteria are met based on thorough technical analysis of the wagon frame and other components, the lifecycle can be extended for many more years, while interior and exterior of the wagon will be completely modernized.

In 2018-2019 a thorough examination of technical conditions was conducted of frames/bodies of the Ема model wagons released in 1976, whose lifecycle had been expired. After positive conclusions from invited experts, factory carried out the second category overhaul of 27 wagons, according to the second and third generation modernization scheme/guidelines. As a result, Tbilisi Metropolitan additionally received 27 units of wagons distinguished by modern design and  technical innovations. The lifecycle of these wagons was extended by 25 years.
